The City of Lancaster awarded the Lancaster North Sewage Pumping Station project to Wickersham Construction & Engineering, Inc. to complete the $11.9 million upgrade and expansion project to the existing 26 MGD pumping station.
We expanded the facility to a 43 MGD pumping station by demolishing several existing structures and equipment to replace them with a new state-of-the-art system. The scope of work included four 700 hp pumps, hundreds of feet of process piping and valves, all new mechanical, electrical and control systems as well as the rehabilitation of the concrete and masonry well building.
Wickersham Construction self-performed the new cast-in-place concrete work required for the new pumping station structures, concrete vaults and the pre-treatment building to house filter screens and two 13’Lx12’Wx35’D grit removal tanks. The most exciting part of this project was revealing a piece of Lancaster history when we uncovered a century-old 10′ diameter brick sewer piping system in like-new condition. We constructed a new 10′ diameter cast-in-place concrete piping system to connect the existing brick pipe to the new pumping station.
