The scope of this project included the construction of a new plant large enough to process the waste from both end of Chesapeake City. The town previously had two treatment plants – one on the north side of the C&D canal, and one on the south side of the canal. The new plant is now located on the north side of the canal next to the location of the old plant. At the old south plant site, we retrofitted a pumping station to pump the south side of town’s wastewater under the canal to be processed at the new north treatment facility.
The new plant consisted of:
Headworks building with mechanical screen and grit skid
Process building with precast SBR tanks, sludge tank, EQ tank and UV trough and all associated equipment
Precast denitrification filter structure
Nucor Dewatering building
Chemical feed system
Renovations to the existing control building including new laboratory, restrooms and electrical room with generator
Site improvements
South Site Scope:
Demo existing plant
New generator building with generator and electrical room
Pumping station
New force main from south site, under the canal and connecting to the new north plant
This challenging project was built through the height of the pandemic, experiencing several material and equipment delays, however it was successfully completed on schedule. We are grateful for the amazing team of our field crews, subcontractors, vendors, KCI Technologies, the Town of Chesapeake City as well as MDE and USDA who all helped us complete the project successfully.
